North Melbourne Officially Decided Not To Re-Contract Four Of Its Most Decorated Players And Here’s How Everyone Reacted

"But I need you all to know that I’m ok with what’s happened."

Last Wednesday, the North Melbourne Football Club delivered the one of the genuine shock moves of the AFL season — announcing that four of its most decorated players would not be re-contracted for 2017.

Just weeks after celebrating Brent Harvey's AFL games record and Drew Petrie's 300th game (just the fifth Kangaroo to reach the milestone); it was announced the pair would join veterans Michael Firrito and Nick Dal Santo in having time called on their days at Arden street.

Fans and media were shocked by the club's timing, and that the announcement could be made via twitter so innocuously.

In the wake of the Kangaroos' decision, lifelong members and fans went in on social media. Here are 10 of the best responses:

1.

North will not re-contract four veterans including Brent Harvey: https://t.co/Y4M1XzlihF Agree with the Boomer call?

4.

Ruthless from @NMFCOfficial. Harvey should be picked up. Petrie could be useful. Very harsh way to treat Boomer. https://t.co/yUEtC6Nfa7

5.

Sorry North Melbourne but the decision to not re contract Boomer Harvey is wrong. Bold but wrong

6.

Not a good week if you're a #Boomer ... first the Olympic basketball, now Brent Harvey not offered a new contract.

And here are 1004 reasons why Boomer Harvey deserves to go on again in 2017... pic.twitter.com/9oNvEzIYVU

9.

Sadly North Melbourne, Boomer, Harvey & Brad Scott top 4 trending for all the wrong reasons. #NMFC

10.

#NMFC All Kanga fans with a heart and a brain should sign this @Boomer_29 https://t.co/VOAomjPF2P

— Alex Serrano (@alex_serrano) August 24, 2016

With fans starting to revolt and finals on the horizon, 'Boomer' moved to quell the outpouring of emotion — writing a heartfelt open letter to his fans and supporters, saying that he was “Ok with what's happened.”

Best of luck wherever 2017 takes you, Roo boys.
